The Week of the Young Child™

The Week of the Young Child™ is an annual celebration hosted by the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC). It celebrates early learning, young children, their teachers, and their families.

Themed Days for The Week of the Young Child:

Kick-off Saturday
We prepare for the kick-off of the Week of the Young Child (WOYC)! As we celebrate young children and their families, remember to take time for self-care and re-energize yourself for the fun and excitement of the week ahead!

Music Monday
We start the Week of the Young Child (WOYC) with singing and dancing! Music allows children to express feelings and encourages language and math development. You will create rhythms, experiment with pitch and melody, and invite movement while sharing in the joy of music!

Tasty Tuesday
Tasty Tuesday isn’t just about eating your favorite foods together. It’s also about cooking together and connecting math with literacy skills and science while introducing ways to connect healthy habits to children’s lifestyles!

Work Together Wednesday
On this day, we highlight the value of collaboration and giving every child a voice.
We are all part of a whole, and each individual idea and voice is needed in our community. Think about how things work and jobs that help make your home and school run smoothly.

Artsy Thursday
On this day, we celebrate children’s creativity! When children have time to enjoy the process of creating art, their decision-making, self-expression, creativity, social skills, literacy, math, and fine motor skills are all fostered.

Family Friday
This day celebrates a child’s most important influence—FAMILY. Research indicates that when children see their parents interacting with teachers in a positive way and seeing them involved in school activities, they feel more secure and learn more. We are partnering with you at school and now at home! We also want to acknowledge and respect the diversity of each child’s family and celebrate YOU!
